Hand-written note reading “Farewell Invision”

It’s been a long run for Invision. When I started in web design, they emerged with a solution to a big problem for designers: sharing and getting feedback on our work. It was innovative and simple. It helped launch a new market for feedback and prototyping tools for designers.

Over the years, Invision’s solution brought more attention to the design industry. As collaboration and prototyping became table stakes, the other industry standard tools incorporated Invision functionality as part of their core product. Fortunately, this improved the experience for millions of designers worldwide. Unfortunately, it eroded the unique value that Invision offered (despite attempts to build new products).

The world is always changing and evolving. That means our users’ environments are always changing, which changes the relationship between the problems we’re targeting and the value our solutions offer to users.

When designing and delivering digital products, we need to keep the waters of time in view.

Invision, you’ve made a huge impact on the community and practice of digital experience design. If your goal was to make the world of design better, you’ve succeeded. Thank you.
